A handful of small spells for Foundry GMs—cast with a single click.
Purpose
Running a smooth, fast-paced game in Foundry VTT can get bogged down by small but repetitive tasks. Managing lights, tracking session time, looting bodies, targeting enemies, and toggling conditions all take extra clicks—and extra time. Meanwhile, players using spells like Enlarge or Disguise Self often have to wait for the GM to catch up, interrupting the flow of combat or roleplay.
Every moment spent fiddling with token settings or hand-choosing targets chips away at momentum. Players lose focus. Combat feels slower. And giving players full access to monster gear? That’s asking for an economy-breaker. Even something as simple as showing token art or noting the session time can become a chore if done manually, over and over.
The GM Utility Macros bundle is a hand-picked set of tools that solve these little problems with big impact. They’re fast, intuitive, and many are safe to give directly to players. Here’s what’s included:
🕒 Date Time Players
Adds a timestamp to the chat so GMs can easily find and review saved session logs later.
🎯 Choose Target
Randomly selects one character from a group and marks them with a target icon—perfect for speeding up enemy decisions while keeping GM control. Update 4.1:
Adds the currently targeted token(s) to the selection pool.
If a token is both selected and targeted, it appears twice in the list— increasing its chance of being chosen again.
If you prefer equal odds for all selected tokens, simply avoid targeting before using Choose Target.
🔦 Lights
Lets players toggle their token’s light to match common sources like candles, torches, or magical spells. Clean and simple.
🖼️ Show Token Image
Displays the token artwork of an NPC or monster in a pop-out window, giving players a clear look at what they’re facing. Most of our tokens are unique, and this brings them to life.
💰 Search Bodies
Streamlines looting by granting just the gold, not every item the creature carried. Prevents inventory bloat and balance issues.
☠️ Toggle Dead
Sets or removes the “dead” overlay. Great for tracking casualties in a flash. (Note: If you use the Die Hard module, make sure the HP is > 1 before toggling OFF.)
Bonus Macros for Players
⬆️ Toggle Large Size
Lets players control when they grow—ideal for handling the Enlarge spell or similar effects, without waiting on the GM.
🧑🎭 Switch Token
With a little setup, this lets players swap between different versions of their token. Perfect for disguises, alternate forms, or magical transformations.
🧨 The Trap Goes Off Description: This macro generates a vivid, randomised trap effect and sends it to chat. It combines random distance, damage, type, and save mechanics into a ready-to-use message.
Sample Output: The trap goes off and all within 15ft take [[/damage 3d6 acid]], [[/save dex 15]] to dodge out of the worst of it.
