“Zero Means Dead” — No more pretending. Drop the act when HP hits zero.
Purpose
Stop Letting Them Linger
In the default 5e system, enemies that hit 0 HP often remain in an awkward in-between state—no hit points, but no official “dead” condition either. fm-die-hard fixes that. The moment a non-player creature reaches zero HP, this module applies the proper death effect, marking them clearly as defeated on the battlefield. No more guesswork. No more loose ends.
Plays Nice With Monk’s Little Details
If you’re using Monk’s Little Details, fm-die-hard will quietly check your settings. If you’ve enabled auto-defeat, it will step aside and notify you, avoiding conflicts or duplicated effects. But if you’ve turned off auto-defeat, this module takes over with precision, applying only the death status you expect—without overreaching.
Lightweight, Clear, and Focused
This isn’t an automation suite—it’s a surgical strike. It doesn’t touch characters or override your narrative. It simply ensures that when a creature drops to zero HP, they’re marked as dead. That’s it. Whether you’re a GM who values clean combat states or a player tired of asking “is it dead?”, fm-die-hard brings clarity and finality to your encounters.
Creatures with a feature named Regeneration are excluded, allowing them to function according to their rules without being prematurely marked as dead.
Latest Update
Added support for the Unconscious condition. Creatures that are unconscious will no longer be automatically marked as dead at 0 HP. This allows you to use unconscious for non-fatal damage that would normally kill a creature.
Description
Die Hard is a lightweight utility module for Foundry VTT that ensures creatures are correctly marked as dead when their hit points reach zero. It applies the "dead" status effect automatically, helping GMs maintain consistent visual indicators both inside and out of combat without manual intervention.
It only affects non-player characters and runs silently in the background to reduce combat bookkeeping for the GM.
